The number now travels through data pipelines you did not build, code you did not write, and systems you did not design, and your name is still on it at the end. The Full Stack Actuary is a book for actuaries about owning that whole chain, not just the model in the middle of it. Coming 2026.

Why the work changed

Regulation got faster. IFRS 17 and its peers did not just add work, they changed the shape of what has to be produced, and how often.
The data got large. Telematics, claims text, third-party feeds. The file stopped fitting on the machine you own.
Compute went elastic. Ambition is no longer capped by hardware. What you can defend is now capped by process instead.
Mechanics automate. The manual steps that justified one person holding the chain are the steps most easily removed. Judgement is what is left.

Four postures

The Consumer — receives the system as given. Fast today, fragile the moment it changes.
The Collaborator — works alongside engineering, translating both ways. The common upgrade.
The Builder — builds parts of the chain outright. Powerful, and easy to over-extend.
The Architect — designs how the stacks fit and where accountability sits. The rarest, and the point.
